It was a real pleasure to present the technical session on "3-Line Profile Grading using Corridors" at AU2008 in Las Vegas. I appreciated your patience throughout the session, it was tough to run through so much material in such a short amount of time.
Mastering the process of 3-Line profile design and production requires some specific knowledge of Points, Alignments, Surfaces, Surface Profiles, Design Profiles, Featurelines, Sub-Assembly and Assembly building before we even get to the step of creating a complex Corridor model let alone producing the primary objective of generating 3-Line plan n profile sheets.
As a followup to this session, I am posting the material and dataset used in the session on the Downloads page. This will also include the VBA tools created specifically to maximize productivity or fill in "gaps" that are currently missing in the out of the box product.
Several people came to me after the session to discuss automated lot grading, roundabout corridor modelling, dealing with pipes in profile and minimum training requirements to learn the process. Based on your interest in the topic and my current connections with consultants who service the Civil 3D marketplace, I will maintain this site and build on the momentum with additional content as time permits and willingness of the consultants to provide services to those in need.
